Fraud Awareness – February 2010

At Bank of Ireland, we’re committed to making your online banking experience as safe as possible. We know that online fraud is a growing phenomenon affecting both individuals and business but there are some simple steps that we can all take to minimise this risk.

Now is a good time to review your accounts. Fraudsters can take advantage of high transaction volume periods when their activity may go unnoticed. Unfortunately, they are becoming increasingly inventive at accessing accounts by employing a number of different methods.

Some examples include fake online websites that request personal banking information, stealing ATM or Credit Card details, bogus job offers, fake lottery wins and much more.

To minimise your risk:

  1. Regularly use 365 online to check your recent transactions
  2. Review your list of online beneficiaries to make sure everything is in order and delete any you no longer need
  3. Review your credit card balance and transactions and make sure you can account for all payments made
  4. Ensure that you have up to date antivirus software on your PC
